Indigenous representation is super scarce in children’s programming, and Indigenous heroines pretty much non-existent. With this summer’s launch of Molly of Denali, PBS is aiming to change that. Molly of Denali was thoughtfully and proudly created with an Alaska Native working group of Indigenous screenwriters, producers, production teams, advisers, and even Alaska Native children, who are featured in the show’s live-action interstitials, teaching young viewers about their way of life, all of which imbues the series with true authenticity.
